Smallwood by ColonelYeo Smallwood by ColonelYeo
Mechanical pencil: .7mm

The drawing bug didn't really hit me while I was on vacation.... except for this one time. I felt compelled to sit and draw out the lake and our boat.

This took me a while to do.... I'd say a few hours a day for 3 days. (There were a lot of distractions going on and work to do.)

I like how it came out. The lake was really calm and warm this past week. (Except for two cold days.) There were a ton of boaters and swimmers. My folks really seemed keen on this picture, and want to get it framed to hang up there. ^^;

My goodness wasnt it an utter b!*#$ to draw that boat? I too recently had to draw one, and lucky for me it wasn't as complicated as yours.
Mine was constructed of wood, but man do you need a lot of patience.
I don't know about you but it's almost like your rebuilding the whole damn thing.
Perspective and composition looks good and proper, my only advice is just keep drawing and see where it brings you brother.

To be honest, I had no real trouble with the boat. The part that gave me the most trouble was actually the background. Specifically, everything on the other shore. There was just SO much to take account of and try to fit in!

But yes, you're right. Every house, every window, every tree limb and silhouette... I might as well have rebuilt and grew all those things. :D

Thank you for the comment and the feedback! I really appreciate it, Dubu. :)

your welcome Colonel!
Hmm I agree about looking at the trees instead of the forest.
I get caught up in the details and pull hairs.
Just recently I find myself trying to embrace the phylosophy;
You either cry about it or laugh about it.
It's difficult but am trying.

Neat sketch, the details of the boat are nicely done. I would have written a critique if I was a bit more experienced.

Sorry for being to good for my own good, Bento. ^^;

Would an apology hug help? :iconhuggleplz:

But yes, I did indeed do this. A few hours a day for three days. (relatively slow by other artists standards, I'm sure.)
Don't be so hard on yourself. I'm sure you could do just as good. Heck, I'd give anything to draw people like you do. I'm quite underdeveloped in that respect. Otherwise I'd be drawing and posting comics here.

You also draw comics, why don't you post them? And really... you don't know how much time I spend correcting my own mistakes... more than painting, and Nebi knows that. Art needs time sometimes <.< Always when you're learning n.n

And really, it's good. *pokes him* I don't accept apologies... live with it .! *runs away with all the cookies*

This is amazing! Wow, I myself aren't very good at drawing scenery, I prefer (for myself), more of a portrait style, or abstract. I also enjoy flowers. But to think that not very many people are capable of scenic sketches, I think this one is a true masterpiece. You are SO lucky to have this beautiful scenery right outside your house!!! :) Anyway, I really like the detail, but maybe you could add some color. Just a tip! Nice work.

Hey man, this drawing turned out pretty nice! I like the subtle and light use of hatching as indication of shadow and value. Its a simple, clean, and effective technique that drew my eye in. I also like how you handled the boat's reflection and ripples in the water and how the darkest values and heaviest weight of line are in the foreground as value would be the darkest closest to the viewers eye, then lighten as it moves toward the background. I would have to say next time try using a ruler or triangle to really create those perfect lines where detail counts although I can tell this was done freehand and looks good nonetheless. I would also add a heavier outline to the top of the boat because it seems to be getting lost with the trees in the background. All in all nice work man!
